Meadows Shopping Centre in Chelmsford supported Make a Wish® UK at Christmas with their magical Wishmas Tree giving shoppers the chance to share their Christmas wishes for 2014/2015.
Shoppers wrote their Christmas wish on a tag for secret Elves to tie onto the tree to create an enchanted Christmas attraction full of colours, ribbons, lights, lanterns and most of all wishes.
In return for having their tag hung on the tree, a small donation was to be made to the chosen charity and in total £392.72 was raised for the well-deserved charity.
As part of the campaign and in keeping with Make A Wish® UK, a charity that grants magical wishes to children and young people with life-threatening conditions the Meadows Shopping Centre promised to grant peoples wishes throughout 2015.
The first wish granted was from Kim Kelleher, a Chelmsford resident, and all she wanted for Christmas was to be able to afford a memorial bench for her cousin’s grave, who was tragically killed in a car accident in July 2014 aged only 26.
Meadows made this happen by donating £500 towards the bench and the rest was then generously donated by Seven Hills Crematorium in order for Kim to purchase a precious gift for her aunt and most importantly late cousin.
Kim Kelleher, commented: ‘I am absolutely over the moon that my wish has come true! It’s made my aunt so happy and to have the full cost of the bench covered is beyond what I ever thought would be possible. I am so grateful to everyone at the Meadows that made this happen.’
Sue Patel, General Manager at the Meadows Shopping Centre, commented: ‘We are delighted to be able to make peoples wishes come true, especially one as special as Kim’s. The campaign was lovely to have at the centre and it is brilliant we can carry the initiative on by granting peoples wishes!
We hope that Kim and her family can enjoy visiting their special bench for many years to come.’
