Kids invited to open auditions for Queen’s panto

Calling all kids aged 8 – 15! The Queen’s is holding open auditions on Friday 29 August at Romford’s Mercury Mall, giving children the chance to star in this year’s Christmas pantomime Sleeping Beauty.

The Queen’s invites 8 to 15-year-olds to try out for parts in the panto’s Young Company. Auditions will be held in public in the central atrium on the ground floor of The Mercury Mall shopping centre, Mercury Gardens, Romford.

Anyone interested must book their places by 12 midday on Monday 25 August.

cut to the chase…. Many local youngsters have landed pantomime roles through open auditions held over the years.

Artistic Director Bob Carlton said: “The Queen’s panto is one of our region’s largest and most popular festive shows. The Young Company is a vital part of this and audiences love them. We think it’s very important to give young local talent a golden opportunity to perform on a professional stage and enjoy being part of the magic!”

Candidates must be able to sing and dance to a high standard, and preferably have some dance training. They must also have plenty of enthusiasm and commitment! Successful auditionees join three teams of chorus members, who share 56 performances of Sleeping Beauty between them during its run from 29 November 2014 – 10 January 2015.

Anyone interested must book their places by 12 midday on Monday 25 August Monday 25 August. Parents or guardians should email stating the child’s name, age, date of birth, address and telephone number.

The Queen’s will be in contact with a time-slot and registration form to bring on the day. Auditionees must: bring a passport-sized recent photograph; wear suitable clothes to move about in; be prepared to stay for up to two hours; and be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Candidates will be auditioned in groups before a judging panel consisting of Director Matt Devitt, Queen’s Head of Music Carol Sloman and Choreographer Donna Berlin and asked to sing and follow a short dance routine.

Those shortlisted will be contacted to attend a recall audition the next day, on Saturday
30 August, at the Queen’s Theatre, Billet Lane, Hornchurch. Successful candidates must attend all rehearsals, which will begin in November and are usually held between 4 – 6pm on weekdays two or three times a week plus a Saturday rehearsal.
