Talk, listen and cuddle campaign is a resource provided by Essex libraries for families.
Essex libraries have created special TLC boxes on a range of subjects for families. Parents can use A box full of TLC to help support their children at difficult times or to help them understand real life experiences. The TLC boxes have a range of picture books to share and an adult non fiction title. The subjects are:
- A box full of TLC – Bedtime
- A box full of TLC – Bereavement (under 5)
- A box full of TLC – Bereavement (5-10)
- A box full of TLC – Toilet training
- A box full of TLC – Sleep
- A box full of TLC – Families
The boxes also contain an object to add a physical and sensory dimension to the book sharing experience, for example a ‘Well done! Squeezy Star’ in the Toilet training box and a facial expressions glove in the under fives Bereavement pack.
Customers can request TLC boxes by using their Library card at any library or online.
TLC promotes the importance of helping young children develop the language and communication skills they need for life. The TLC website at www.essex.gov.uk/tlc offers families advice and has fun activities for young children.
Essex libraries have also sets of Dealing With cards, with some new additions. These have book lists and information sources to help support children with life situations, such as having a new baby in the family.
There is also a Youtube resource to accompany the programme.
